Superstitions about Weddings
Wedding Day Superstitions and Traditions

BRIDAL SHOWER
The first gift the bride opens should be the first gift she uses.
Everything the bride says as she opens her gifts will be repeated on her wedding night. Somone should be assigned to write down these comments during the shower.
The person who gives the third gift to be opened will soon have a baby.Save the ribbons from the shower gifts to make a mock bouquet to be used at the wedding rehearsal.

WEDDING DAY

Certain days of the week, and certain months of the year are better than others for a wedding.Monday for health,
Tuesday for wealth,
Wednesday best of all,
Thursday for losses,
Friday for crosses,
Saturday for no luck at all

Married when the year is new, he’ll be loving, kind & true,
When February birds do mate, You wed nor dread your fate.
If you wed when March winds blow, joy and sorrow both you’ll know.
Marry in April when you can, Joy for Maiden & for Man.
Marry in the month of May, and you’ll surely rue the day.
Marry when June roses grow, over land and sea you’ll go.
Those who in July do wed, must labour for their daily bred.
Whoever wed in August be, many a change is sure to see
Marry in September’s shrine, your living will be rich and fine.
If in October you do marry, love will come but riches tarry.
If you wed in bleak November, only joys will come, remember.
When December snows fall fast, marry and true love will last.

FOR A LUCKY BRIDE
Something old,
Something new,
Something borrowed,
Something blue,
And a lucky sixpence
In her shoe.
Married in White, you have chosen right
Married in Grey, you will go far away,
Married in Black, you will wish yourself back,
Married in Red, you will wish yourself dead,
Married in Green, ashamed to be seen,
Married in Blue, you will always be true,
Married in Pearl, you will live in a whirl,
Married in Yellow, ashamed of your fellow,
Married in Brown, you will live in the town,
Married in Pink, you spirit will sink

WEDDING DAY
Good Omens:
seeing a rainbow
having the sun shine
meeting a black cat
meeting a chimney sweep

WEDDING DAY
Bad Omens
a pig, hare, or lizard running across the road
seeing an open grave
meeting a nun or a monk foretell barrenness

OTHER BELIEFS
If the groom drops the wedding band during the ceremony, the marriage is doomed
The new bride must enter her home by the main door, and must not trip or fall – hence the custom of carrying the bride over the threshold.
The spouse who goes to sleep first on the wedding day will be the first to die

WEDDING CAKE
If a single woman sleeps with a piece of wedding cake under her pillow, she will dream of her future husband

Jason and I got married in a very intimate, romantic setting!  It was just he and I…   Nothing more nothing less…
Well it’s not a secret that I have been married twice before.  So, we did not want to make a big fuss about anything!
Accept now looking back, I have a void!
I am going to call it Bridal Void…
I want a wedding
I want a dress
I want an AMAZING reception!
OK….
So, I got my husband to agree…( HE says anything to make you happy honey…)
But, what in the heck am I doing to do with a wedding dress?  My daughter is going to want her own….  I could sell it…?  Nah…
I am going to Trash It!  Yep!
It’s called Trashing the Dress…  And I am jumping on board!
Check out the photo’s, it just seems like TONS of fun and WHY not!???
I am going to take it a step further…  I am going to get my brides maids to do it as well with their dresses from the wedding:-D !!!
I can’t wait!!

Oh yes!  WE did it! Jason and I dipped into the ocean and it was um, very um, invigorating!  We are crazey enough that we are going to make that a
TopHat Affairs Tradition!
But next year…
We are going to have an Entrouage!
We are going to be dressed in a theme!
We are going to be LOUD!
And we are going to have a TON of fun!  This year it was thrown together at the last minute.  But, NEXT year..  Look out Tybee Island…  HEHEHEHEHEHEHE……….
Oh it was GREAT!
I will be posting pictures!

Yes its true!  Dolores Schwartz Event Planner, Wedding Planner brought in a partner! Not an assistant, not an intern…  But, a full fleged partner!  Why?  Because we are just about to take off and two brilliant heads are so much better then one!  MORE TO COME!!

While I was catching up on my blogs I found this on April Groves’s blog…

We here at TopHat Affairs  want to show people that…  We are alot of fun!  We have a zest for life that we want to convey to our clients!  So, this year we are going to be participating in the Tybee Island Polar Beat Plunge! You can call us alot of things… But, you can never call us un-adventurous!  See you there!!

Looking back!

If you would have told me last year I was going to be a business owner I would have laughed my HEAD off!
Seriously!
It’s kinda one of those things that you just never think about.  However, having a 9-5 to just was not conducive to family life!
So, I had to do something.  After a couple of inspirational moments ( I will spare you the story…) And some brainstorming…  I am  the proud owner of TopHat Affairs
It’s an event planning company we do weddings, parties and awesome events!
My husband is a Marriage Officiant ( No, he does not have a church he just officiates weddings… ) and a license travel agency!
So, honestly we are your “premiere” one stop event planning shop!  We have a list of preferred vendors, that range in price and needs.  And I have ONE preferred DJ who is looking to expand his services!
In the New Year…  I have a few surprises up my sleeve and I am planning on taking on a partner to better our sevirces  for our clients!  It’s all very exciting and Here’s to an AWESOME NEW YEAR!!!

b014.jpgLast Saturday I walked in the River Street Parade…  I walked with the Susan G Komen for the cure Southeast GA Affiliate!
Even though it was thrown together in a little over two weeks…
I personally believe it was a success…
While I was walking I was almost moved to tears( acutally MANY times while I was walking I had to choke them back…) people were cheering us on and some women even yelling ” I am a survivor!  I am a survivor…”  Oh it was AWESOME!

I have taken a break from blogging.  I needed to do some self organization…
I needed to find time to work out.  I am now doing that in the morning.
I needed to figure out when I was going to make referral calls and catch up on stuff
I needed to find time when I was going to do sketches… So on and so forth….
Not to mention juggling being a mommy of four, and a wife!
So, something needed to go by the way side…  Blogging was it.
But, I am back with MANY MANY new and exciting topics to write about!
Stay tuned!

Last Friday we had the pleasure of doing a vow renewal of Tonya and Martin , They were married in a quickie ceremony back in April.  On Wednesday Tonya came to us and said she wanted something a little bit more meaningful…  So, what did TopHat Affairs do?  What we do BEST!  We put together an AWESOME all in the family vow renewal.
The location?
The smallest Church in America
Here is a description:
Nestled off the highway and tucked behind a small sandy circular drive, the smallest church seats, in theory, 12 parishioners and a pastor. A mere 15 feet long by ten feet wide, such a crowd would make mouthwash mandatory for all. Outside the church entrance stands a small, miniature-looking bell tower roughly 12 feet tall with a little bronze plate dating it to 1998. However, the church itself, the brainchild of Ms. Agnes Harper, is much older, having been completed in 1949.

Located about an hour south of Savannah on exit 67 off Highway 95, “America’s Smallest Church” is easy to miss amidst the blue highway signs advertising fast food and petroleum. But the observant traveler will note a handmade sign hidden behind a drooping tree branch, directing travelers to exit at the nearest ramp for “America’s Smallest Church.”
If you are driving south on 95 you’ll want to take a left at the bottom of the exit. The smallest church is a short drive past the gas stations, pit barbecue and fishing reserve, about a mile south on Coastal Highway 17.

It’s a PERFECT place for a quickie spur of the moment ceremony!!
Congratulations AGAIN to Tonya and Martin!!
